Dude, No Atlas Shrugged (though Fountain Head is close). No Orwell, come on! Animal Farm, 1984 have to be there.
ReplyDeleteha! I most definitely agree w/ you re Orwell--required reading. Ayn Rand? I haven't gotten my check yet from her foundation to include any of her work on this list. Besides, David Brooks wrote a recent column on Americans as followers--much, much shorter but covers the same basic points.

Down and Out in London and Paris is Orwell, though admittedly not the work he's most known for.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly various list, though it could benefit from a longer historical perspective. Also, though I get that most Austenites would say this is the wrong answer, I much prefer Persuasion to Pride and Prejudice.
