Most have heard about President Obama's statement of support of Equal Rights for more American Citizens (esp LGBT). He's been lauded by many, but as this chart shows leaving minority rights to majority vote and the prevailing winds of public opinion may not be the best process to ensure Equal Rights for All American Citizens.

I'm with you on this one (in part anyway). This is not very helpful to the GLBT community. I don't see why people on the left are happy with the President. The guy that is ok with jamming a national health insurance plan down every citizen's throat is ok with letting the states decide for themselves on gay-marriage? What a coward! Most of the states have overwhelmingly shot this issue down. No matter what he says, the President's opinion is to go with what the states have already decided; they’re against it! And...notice the words he chose, "they should be ‘allowed’ to marry." Don't they have a RIGHT to marry? Whether you believe EVERYONE has a right to marry or not, you can hardly be impressed with the President's “stance.” Maybe he’ll take a stronger stance if his gay contributors continue to hold back their contributions to his campaign. A pragmatist indeed…
ReplyDeletenot to be cynical, I just wonder how much of Biden's gaffe was just that or something more calculated?
ReplyDeleteI'd guess it was a trial balloon. It's not like they can run on the economy.
