RIP Grizzly Adams

Yet another reminder of my own mortality today (Bowie's passing, of course, came earlier)--Dan Haggerty (aka Grizzly Adams) passed away today from cancer at the age of 74. Nice post with videos, et al from the AV Club:

Thursday Night Music Club--good feelings ed.

This song always puts a smile on my face--here's Lyle Lovett's first "hit" (check out that hair!). Enjoy--

and here's a live version with Joe Ely and John Hiatt:

(via Digby)

(from Jacobin)

No, I haven't seen American Sniper, but I feel as if I have . . . Stephen Mayer explains why the film's template is familiar, and why, regardless of your politics, it's not really art but something else. Provocative read.

Danger Ahead: Noam Chomsky on Standardized Testing

(via TestTroublemakers)

Noam Chomsky addresses the proliferation of standardized testing in public education; others also weigh in on the "human capital" meme and its implications. Good read from "Creative by Nature"--

Don't know much of anything about 'em. But I liked their sound from the first listen. Lord Huron "Fool for Love." Enjoy--
